69 tons of firework debris were collected by all hard working sanitation workers here in Beijing on the FIRST day of the Chinese New Year. I wonder how much it was after the whole 15 days???

According to “The Beijinger” China gets 69.4 % of its energy from coal…. no wonder the filter from our air purifiers looks like this after 6 months… quite a difference between the old and new filter…..it makes you wonder  what our lungs looks like after soon to be three years here ….But we have clean air indoors! at least !!!!!!!!

Another report is that in January this year 65, 970 cars were sold in Beijing…..17 % more than this month last year….. No crisis here!

I read in this month´s “The Beijinger” about the garbage collectors in the different neighbourhodds here in Beijing. What seem to be most stable to collect is paper or cardboard that is sold for about 1 RMB per kilo. But in this business as in others the world financial crisis is noticeable and they are making less than before. Around 300 – 500 RMB a month on a good month….

Max class room was decorated with the symbols for the New Year; firecrackers, red lanterns and fish. The firecrackers and red colour is by legend said to scare off evil spirits. The fish is the symbol for good fortune. Only thing missing now is the dumplings……

    IMG_2389

Chinese New Year is also a time of giving. This is the school Giving Tree that shows the red envelopes with donations. The children got to decorate their envelope and hang them in the tree. The school sends their donation to a small foster home in Beijing and this year they raised over 6000 Yuan.

This is the only place in Beijing were you can find luxurious cars right now…

There is a new policy that bans all government cars in Beijing right now ( to improve the air for the Olympic Games). The consequence is that we can’t see any BMW 760iL, Mercedes S500, S600 or Audi A8L, A6L on the roads right now….

Can all of these cars be owned by the people of the Government??

Today we started the hunt for a new apartment here in Beijing. Why?? We are now 4 persons so our current apartment is getting too small and also – we would like to move to the Lido area… Lido is closer to Max new school and to my new office. If I have the time I might be able to take the bike to the office but that will most likely not happen…. I have too many good excuses…

Apartments.. We looked at 5 different apartments today…

    IMG_7793

This picture is from the first apartment… The layout was not so good and the kitchen counters were only 80 cm high…

    IMG_7803

Max is trying out the floor – dirty….

    IMG_7812

Second apartment… The layout was much better than the first one but look at the lamps… Another strange thing that Britt could not accept was that the kitchen counters blocked the kitchen door and in the bath room the shower door collided with the toilet… Strange arrangements….IMG_7828

Now we are on the 27th floor in the 3rd apartment for the day. Very nice view but look at the windows and you might see how dirty they are.

    IMG_7827

If you look at the floor you will see how dirty the apartment is. This must be one of the dirtiest apartments that I ever have seen

    IMG_7853

We found it!!! Great apartment… It has 4 bedrooms and the size is 294 square meters. Good layout and a nice open kitchen. Also – the furniture are from the store were we planned to buy furniture for our new apartment -so that makes it even better. Lets see if we can get this one…

After a very long day out looking at apartments Sam takes a nap on his daddy’s shoulder…
